Archaeo-mineral
park of San Silvestro 20 km far, near San Vincenzo. A fort
that was built by Carlo V as a defence against the corsairs.
Castle
of Lari 30 km far, a castle of the Medici dating back to
the year 1000. There are a lot of coats of arms to notice,
some of which are by Luca della Robbia
Altopascio: the origin of the village is around the year 1000, to help
the pilgrims of the Via Francigena. S. Jacopo Church with
the thirteen century façade, jewel of the romanico
– lucchese architecture. On the top of the big bell-tower
there is still the legendary bell, called the “smarrita”
(lost), that every evening would peal for an hour to indicate
the road to follow to the lost wanderers. The bread of Altopascio
is famous. In this village there have been great bakers since
1000 years ago.

Vicopisano:
there are a lot of towers in this village as well as the
Castle with the Fortress, built on a project by Brunelleschi.
Among the towers, all of the XIV century, one must visit
that with four doors opened on every side by an ogival arch.
The parish church in pisan style of the XI century is beautiful.
In the inside there are wood sculptures of the XIII century.

by cork woods. Near the medieval door there is the romanic
church of S. Giusto. It’s worth seeing the Palazzo Pretorio,
in typical XIII century style. On high there is the XIV century
fortress.
Belvedere. little
high village, from which one enjoy a wonderful panorama.
Castello di Querceto.this village was fortified
in the year 1000. The Lords were called “Conti della Santa
Croce”.

km): a castle with the museum of Leonardo’s inventions.
Larderello (40
Km): famous for the borax fumaroles and the museum of geotermy.
Montecatini Val di Cecina old
village of the Bishops of Volterra. In the workshops there
is still the working of alabaster.
Castagneto Carducci,old
village with the big Castle of the Della Gherardesca. Here
lived G. Carducci in the years 1848-49. In the XVI century
oratory is kept the XV century Crocefisso Ligneo (see also
“Holy Places”). In the woods of Castagneto Carducci there
is the X century Torre di Segalari, in very good state..

pure romanic style. The sale of mineral sample for collection

Sassetta. little centre for an holiday in silence
and peace, surrounded by the chestnut and ilex woods. There
is also a castle built before 1000 and S. Andrea church.
On the old looms the women of the village still weave blanket
and carpets.
Valle Benedetta:
The Romitorio della Sambuca was declared in 1910 national
monument and ancient worship centre founded by the Augustinians
in 1200 and after committed to the Jesuits. Now you can admire
its rests.

roman cathedral with the San Cerbone’s ark and Palazzo Comunale.
Pitigliano.
Beautiful village in typical medieval style situated on a
tufa rock. The houses has the form of towers and are built
in tufa so that one has the illusion that the village is
hollowed and not built on the tufa rock. There a lot of picturesque
caverns, ancient Etruscan graves and much more things to
see.
Roselle.Important
etruscan and roman town declined in the XII century. The
town walls are huge.
Bolgheri and its Avenue with age-old cypresses: little village of
the Conti della Gherardesca. Through the cypresses avenue
and then through the door itself of the castle one enters
the village dating back to the year 1000. In the little square
there is Carducci’s house. The village is at the centre of
a big fauna refuge covering about 400 hectares which can
be visited from November to March, twice a week.
Vada. Worth
visiting is the church of SS. Giovanni e Paolo. The fort
then employed as lighthouse was erected by the Medici to
be protected against the pirates. Vada was frequently assaulted
by the Saracens, that’s why it is also called “rada del Saraceno”
Rosignano Marittimo.This
primitive medieval village all assembled on a small hill
is dominated by the rests of the castle. Worth seeing are
the Palazzo Pretorio, the Palazzo Comunale and the Etruscan
museum |
